Return and Refund Policy

This Return and Refund Policy explains under which conditions you may return a product and obtain a refund for purchases made on www.theartofbackgammon.com (the "Website"), operated by The Art Of Backgammon. Because each piece is handcrafted, we treat every return with particular care to preserve the integrity of our work and the satisfaction of our clients.

1. Eligibility for Returns

Subject to the terms below, you may request a return for products purchased on the Website if:

  • The product is defective or damaged upon arrival; or
  • The product does not conform to your order; or
  • You exercise your legal right of withdrawal (if applicable, see Section 3).

Only products purchased directly from the Website are eligible for return under this policy. Products purchased from authorised retailers or third parties are subject to their own return policies.

2. Condition of Returned Products

To be eligible for a return, the product must meet the following conditions:

  • Be in its original condition, unused and undamaged;
  • Be returned in its original packaging (box, protective materials, accessories, documentation, certificates, etc.);
  • Bear no signs of wear, impact, scratches, stains or modifications;
  • Include the original proof of purchase (order confirmation or invoice).

Products that are damaged, altered, incomplete, or show signs of use beyond normal inspection may be refused or subject to a partial refund at the sole discretion of The Art Of Backgammon.

3. Right of Withdrawal (For EU Consumers)

If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, you benefit from a legal right of withdrawal of 14 calendar days from the date you receive the product, without needing to provide a reason.

To exercise this right, you must inform us of your decision to withdraw before the expiry of the 14-day period by sending an email to: gennay31@gmail.com.

After notifying us, you have an additional 14 days to return the product to the address we will provide in our confirmation email.

Important: The right of withdrawal does not apply to:

  • Bespoke or personalised products made to your specifications (custom dimensions, materials, finishes, engravings, monograms, etc.);
  • Products that, due to their nature, cannot be returned without deterioration.

4. Non-Returnable Items

The following items are generally non-returnable, except in the case of defect or non-conformity:

  • Custom-made backgammon boards or bespoke creations;
  • Products with personalised engravings, initials or specific design requests;
  • Items that have been used, damaged or altered by the customer.

If you have any doubt as to whether your order is considered bespoke or personalised, please contact us prior to purchase or before initiating a return request.

5. Return Procedure

To initiate a return, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact us: Send an email to gennay31@gmail.com indicating your order number, full name, address, and the reason for the return (defect, non-conformity, withdrawal, etc.).
  2. Receive confirmation: We will confirm whether your return is eligible and provide you with the return address and any specific instructions.
  3. Prepare the package: Carefully repackage the product in its original packaging, including all accessories and documents, and protect it adequately to avoid damage during transport.
  4. Ship the product: Send the parcel using a tracked and insured shipping service. Unless otherwise indicated, return shipping costs are your responsibility.

We strongly recommend keeping the proof of shipment and tracking number until your return has been fully processed.

6. Return Shipping Costs

Unless the product is defective or does not conform to your order, return shipping costs are borne by the customer.

If the return is due to an error on our part (wrong product shipped, defect, or non-conformity), we will either:

  • Provide a prepaid shipping label; or
  • Reimburse reasonable return shipping costs upon presentation of proof of payment.

7. Inspection and Approval

Once we receive your returned product, it will be inspected to verify:

  • Its condition (unused, undamaged, complete);
  • Its conformity with the original order;
  • Compliance with the conditions of this Return and Refund Policy.

We will notify you by email of the approval or rejection of your return and refund request.

8. Refunds

If your return is approved, we will process your refund within a reasonable timeframe, and no later than 14 days from:

  • The date we receive the returned product; or
  • The date you provide proof of shipment of the product (whichever occurs first), in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Refunds will be made using the same payment method used for the original transaction, unless we expressly agree on a different method with you.

Depending on your bank or payment provider, it may take additional time for the refund to appear on your statement.

9. Partial Refunds or Deductions

In certain cases, only a partial refund may be granted, including (but not limited to) when:

  • The product shows signs of use or wear beyond normal inspection;
  • The product is returned damaged, incomplete or without some accessories or documentation;
  • The return is made outside the authorised period, subject to our prior agreement.

Any such deductions will be communicated to you and justified in writing.

10. Exchanges

Due to the unique and artisanal nature of our products, we generally do not offer direct exchanges.

If you wish to obtain another model, size or configuration, we invite you to:

  • Return the original product in accordance with this policy; then
  • Place a new order for the desired item on the Website.

In specific cases (e.g. bespoke creations), we may discuss alternative solutions on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at gennay31@gmail.com.

11. Defective or Damaged Products

If you receive a product that is defective, damaged in transit, or does not conform to your order, please notify us within 48 hours of delivery by emailing: gennay31@gmail.com.

Please include:

  • Your order number;
  • A description of the issue;
  • Clear photographs of the product and packaging (including any visible damage).

We will assess the situation and may offer:

  • Repair of the product, where feasible;
  • Replacement with an identical or similar item;
  • A full or partial refund, depending on the circumstances.

In the event of damage in transit, we may also file a claim with the carrier. Your cooperation (photos, details, retention of packaging) is essential in such cases.

12. Legal Guarantees

This Return and Refund Policy is applied without prejudice to your legal rights under applicable consumer protection laws, including:

  • The legal guarantee of conformity; and
  • The legal guarantee against hidden defects.
